Hatchet 3 (2013) film review (Decker Shado)
Wiki Article
Hatchet 3 (2013) is the third horror film in the Hatchet Series. It is a follow-up to the murderous adventures of Victor Crowley across Louisiana's Honey Island Swamp. Kane Hodder plays Victor Crowley and Brian Quinn is Deputy Winslow. Rileah Vanderbilt plays Misty.
The movie's special effects are its greatest strength. Hatchet 3 uses a majority of practical makeup effects as well as sets. This is different from the majority of horror films today that rely heavily upon CG effects. It also features some really horrifying moments.
Kane Hodder is a standout among the cast, and he's an intimidating villain. The dialogue is sufficiently campy and tongue-in-cheek for it to feel like a true '80s slasher movie at times. There are also some hilarious moments that stand out against all the gut-wrenching scenes.
Unfortunately, due to the limited budget (reportedly (click link) just $1 million) most of the locations are re-used from earlier films in the series. The same boat house was featured twice in the film and a lot of the film feels like it's been recycled from other films in this franchise. Hatchet or Hatchet II may be able to recognize it as familiar, which could result in the film feeling almost too familiar.
Overall, Hatchet 3 was a excellent series. There were many gory moments and several great performances by the cast.
